Visual Basic, Java, and C++ Systems

These time-tested languages are at the heart of most IT systems. Development with these applications serves two purposes. The first is to build complete software applications. The second is to create components, or "middleware", that connect data sources and user interfaces, such as web pages.

Visual Basic is an excellent choice for cost effective Windows based systems. While it is a proprietary language and will run only on Microsoft platforms, its selling points are its robust development environment, language simplicity and ubiquity. The recent renovation of the VB syntax, as well as the introduction of the C# language (more akin to VB than C) in Microsoft’s .Net platform promise a bright future for this popular language.

Java, on the other hand, is a cross platform open standard language, meaning it will work on Windows, UNIX, Linux, and other platforms. Java’s ease of use, clean programming conventions and open nature have made it an overnight sensation that will be with us for years to come. While desktop applications can be created using Java, it's best use is for the server components for web-based applications.

Finally, C++ is our choice for systems where performance is the highest priority. Though C++ applications may cost more and take longer to develop than other systems, they provide an unmatched level of system control, application size and processing performance. C++, also an open standard, is the natural choice for computation intensive or heavily accessed systems, as well as software developed for retail sale.
